Vai is Crete’s largest reserve of natural palm tree forest. The palm tree forest begins a kilometer before the shore and grows in places very densely in a valley between two rocky hills. There are a few dozen beach chairs available at the beach bordered with palm trees. There is a chargeable parking area just beside the beach, but there is only a short walk from the free parking area outside the gate of the beach area. The palm trees give the beach an exotic atmosphere. The sand is fine and the reefs and an island in front of the beach calm down the waves and swelling of the sea quite nicely. There is a tavern and a kiosk by the beach, but no accommodation.

Visiting Vai beach is an unforgettable experience. From Vai it is possible to head out either to the south along the eastern coast or west in the direction of Sitia. The most notable sight of the Vai area is the Toplou Monastery.
